Borshch has had a special and
important place on the daily menu of the Ukrainian people for many years. It is
usually served as a first course for dinner. It tastes best when served with pampushkas (small round buns) and
garlic.
Varenyky
are square - or crescent-shaped dumplings of unleavened dough,
stuffed with mashed potato, sauerkraut, cheese, cabbage, meat, hard-boiled egg or a combination of these, or with a fruit filling. Varenyky
are very popular in Ukraine.
